5 methods of contraception to avoid getting pregnant without using a condom

1 - Hormonal contraception

It blocks the menstrual cycle of the woman and thus prevents ovulation, thickening the cervical mucus and modifying the wall of the uterus to make it unwelcoming, which hinders the passage of spermatozoa. The pill is the most common method of contraception, taken orally, in the form of tablets and daily. Very effective, the oestrogens and progesterone that it concentrates make it possible to stop the ovulation. It is prescribed only after prior checking of the medical and family history. It is not suitable for all women and can cause side effects from mild to severe.

2 - The hormonal IUD
The hormonal IUD is an intrauterine device that a gynecologist will place in the uterus under local anesthesia. It is a small plastic stem that releases a progestin in regular doses in the uterus. The hormonal IUD effectively protects against unwanted pregnancy for 5 years to 10 years, depending on the model.

3 - Interrupted coitus or withdrawal technique
It is a natural technique whereby the man removes his penis from his partner's vagina before ejaculation. This reduces the risks of pregnancy but not those of sexually transmitted infections if the man carries them. In addition, ejaculation can sometimes be uncontrollable. The first drops of pre-ejaculatory sperm that a man can eject without realizing it, contain enough sperm to fertilize the oocyte and cause pregnancy.

4 - The calendar method
It is suitable for calculation followers but is not reliable, due to the irregularity of a menstrual cycle. The period of fertility is calculated from the first day of menstruation on the first day of the cycle, for a period of six to twelve months, from which a certain number of days are subtracted.
In order to determine the first day of fertility, it is necessary to subtract 20 days from the duration of the shortest menstrual cycle which is 26 days - 20 = 6. The fertility period therefore begins on the 6th day of the menstrual cycle.
To identify the last day of fertility, deduct 10 days of the longest menstrual cycle that is 30 - 10 = 20. The fertility period will therefore end around the 20th day of the menstrual cycle.
The period of fertility is between the 6th and 20th day of the menstrual cycle, during which time one must avoid sexual intercourse with vaginal penetration.

5 - Contraception by sterilization
The use of these methods is often irreversible and must be the result of a carefully considered decision. One is to make a ligature of the fallopian tubes, which are cut and sutured so as to prevent the encounter of the oocyte and the spermatozoa.
Less invasive than tubal ligation but irreversible, the placement of implants at the entrance of the tubes finally clogs them. In men, vasectomy consists in severing the vas deferens, the ducts that lead the spermatozoa from the testicles to the penis. As stated, this is a definitive solution that requires a lot of reflection.
